British No1 Suffers Second Round Exit At Sw19 As Her Wimbledon Title Defence Comes To An End

Wimbledon 2023: Emma Raducanu crashes out to Caroline Garcia in straight sets

British No.1 suffers second-round exit at SW19 as her Wimbledon title defence comes to an end.

Raducanu was beaten 6-3, 6-3 by Frenchwoman Garcia on Court 1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The 19-year-old, who became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam title in 44 years when she triumphed at Flushing Meadows last September, struggled to find her rhythm against a powerful opponent.

Garcia, the world No.18, broke Raducanu's serve in the opening game of the match and never looked back. She took the first set 6-3 in just 37 minutes.

Raducanu fought back in the second set, breaking Garcia's serve twice to take a 3-1 lead. But Garcia hit back immediately, winning the next four games in a row to seal victory.

It is a disappointing end to Wimbledon for Raducanu, who was hoping to make a deep run in the tournament. She will now have to wait until next year to try and defend her title.

Garcia, meanwhile, will face Marie Bouzkova in the third round on Friday.
