Flight Groundings and Delays Due to Major Tech Outage
Communication Issue Affects Major US Airlines
On Friday morning, several major US airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, were forced to ground flights due to a communications issue. The outage, which affected a critical system used by air traffic control, caused significant disruptions to air travel across the country.
Microsoft Outage Impacts Frontier Airlines
In a separate incident, a significant outage at Microsoft also brought low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines to a standstill for hours. The outage occurred on Thursday and disrupted the airline's reservation and check-in systems, leading to flight cancellations and delays.
Thousands of Flights Affected
As a result of the communication issue and Microsoft outage, over 10,000 flights within, into, or out of the United States were delayed, and over 1,300 were canceled. Frontier Airlines alone canceled 147 flights and delayed 212 others, while Allegiant Air experienced delays for 45 of its aircraft.
Flight Status Updates
Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight status updates. Travelers should also be prepared for potential delays or cancellations and allow extra time for their journeys.
