Irwin Moves West; Forecasters Eye New Disturbance
Irwin
Hurricane Irwin is currently located 1,350 miles east of Hawaii and moving west.
The Category 1 storm is bringing life-threatening rainfall to the islands, with more than 34 inches falling in one area.
Irwin is a large storm, with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward 255 miles from the center.
New Disturbance
Forecasters are monitoring a new area of low pressure located east-southeast of Hawaii.
The disturbance is expected to develop into a tropical depression or storm in the next few days.
If it does, it will be the third tropical cyclone to affect Hawaii this year.
